Sweet Like Chocolate… Spread

Sweet Like Chocolate Spread Layout

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words and a title is more than enough.

Somehow, my mischievous niece, Tsuf, keeps getting into situations wherein a picture will suffice…

I love her!

[And too many people say she reminds them of me at her age. I was pretty opinionated, what can I say…]

Father Son Conversation Layout

Nadav’s mom was the one who asked me to take these pictures, and I’m so glad she did.

This is such a good memory to have and such a great way to showcase my husband’s special connection with his dad.

All the pictures were printed at 4″ by 6″ but trimmed to 2½” by 6″ to emphasize the conversation between the two, rather than the busy background of the event we were in.

This is a very minimalistic layout, where the photos take the center stage.

It Is Hailing Man – Hallelujah

It Is Hailing Man Layout

Granted, April is very unstable, weather-wise.

But we did not expect it to HAIL.

Especially not that strong, with such big blobs.

Especially not in Israel… In April. Now way.

Way…

In this layout I recorded a funny memory of how Nadav’s cat, Uzi, was caught outside and didn’t have good cover.

Soon after the hail stopped we heard him meowing behind the door and he came in, completely soaked and miserable.

Then, like any cat would do when it reaches a safe and dry spot, Uzi shook his fur and hail-balls started falling out.

We couldn’t stop laughing.

Poor Uzi.

[Interesting fact: Uzi is a common name for red-haired kids in Israel. Or cats…]

Family Trip Layout

This layout is photo heavy, as I wanted to include all the photos we took at a day trip with Nadav’s parents, while we were visiting home in April.

All the photos were printed at 4″ by 6″, but one was trimmed to fit in…

You And I Share A Passion

You and I Share a Passion

In my last visit to Israel I found out that my 7-years-old nephew loves to take pictures.

I always knew he is a talented little guy. He’s drawing and painting whenever he has the chance to do so.

He’s also gifted, but that’s just me bragging. So unrelated… Moving on.

I never knew that he also likes to take pictures.

He is so talented. He has a great eye for composition and he did a very good job with my DSLR.

Better job than mine…

In this layout you can see a photo of me taken by him with my camera and a photo of the little guy with his camera, taken by me.

[Bragging again – he’s also very cute. Handsome little guy].

Swallow Life Without Chewing

[Font: Label Impact (title) and my own handwriting; Digital Kit: Cypris by Karla Dudley.]

This time I decided to be a bit more playful and harnessed my trusty Wacom tablet to the job.

I wanted to create the feeling that, although I created this page digitally, it was actually a page out of an art journal.

we decided to rule our own little world and make today truly and completely ours.

Here I Am Again, Albeit A Bit Rusty…

There Was A Girl

[Font: Adler; Digital Kits: Friends (yellow PP), Crasy In Love (background PP – recolored), Modern Marvel (red stitches – recolored), Dotty Alpha (‘me’), Just Thinking (all other elements) – all by Karla Dudley.]

Journaling reads:

Once upon a time, there was a girl. That girl loved the color red and loved to wear dresses. That girl believed in magic and fairies. That girl was playful and imaginative. She loved to read and to paint and to write letters to her mom and dad, telling them how much she loves them. That girl took extra care not to step on an ant, thus always stared at the ground while walking. She used to climb on any possible tree or rock and fell down more than she cares to remember, but thankfully never broke a bone. That girl loved to dance and sing, whether to her self or to a crowd, regardless of whether she was any good at it. That girl loved her dolls and her Nana doll. That girl loved animals and was always eager to adopt a new pet. That girl was sweet albeit opinionated. I find it hard to believe, but… this girl is me.

On A Personal Note

I know you must be thinking: “Is she kidding me? She’s been MIA for almost 3 whole months and then posts a layout, as if nothing had happened”. You are absolutely right to be thinking that. However the only answer I can give right now is: No. I am not kidding. I really, REALLY appreciate your love and support through a stressful period in my life, which is not completely behind me – but I am going to do just that. I am going to post as if nothing has never happened. I hope you are okay with it. I love you too.

Be You – A Blast From The Past

Be You

[Fonts: Adler and Halo Handletter; Digital Kits: mostly “Be You” and the white stitches are from Digi Essentials Elements – all by Karla Dudley.]

Journaling Prompt

Karla Dudley’s new collection Be You has inspired me to look for a picture that can showcase who am I.

I do not have that many pictures of myself, as I am mostly on the other side of the camera… (not such a good idea) but I still have a few laying around. The pictures I have are from different times in my life, so they made me thinking of people and who they are.

People change all the time. They change physically, emotionally, professionally, romantically and in many other ways too.

However, even after a person changes he still carries around with him some of what he was before.

I am not different. I carry with me lots of bits and pieces of what I have been in my life time.

I carry with me an obsession for reading that my 5 year-old self sparked when she started reading on her own.

I carry with me the resilience of my 6 year-old self who overcame a serious illness.

I carry with me passion for fashion and design from my 11 year-old self who wanted to be a fashion designer and draw different outfits relentlessly.

I carry with me the love of writing that my 15 year-old self used when she won two writing competitions.

I carry with me the leadership and responsibility of my 17 year-old self who was the head of her school’s student body.

I carry with me the fear of war and redundant hatred from when my 18 year-old self survived an atrocious murder but my best friend’s sister didn’t.

I carry with me the sense of accomplishment of my 24 year-old self who got her license to practice law after 4 years at the university and a year as an intern.

I carry with me a strong moral campus I got from my 25 year-old self who sought truth and justice and was willing to work 60-hour weeks, sometimes 76… to get it.

I carry with me the joy of tying the knot with my one and only true love, my husband Nadav.

I carry with me the adventurousness of my 27 year-old self who left everything and moved abroad with her husband of 3 months.

I carry with me the ability to cope and adjust from my 28 year-old self who had moved again to another country in another continent, even farther away from home.

I carry with me bits and pieces from every day I have lived on earth and every bit and every piece is making me who I am today.

Think Outside The Theme

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

I have a ‘thing’. I don’t like themed embellishments and papers.

Whenever I see a spooky house or Hanukkah lights or a Christmas tree or a cutesy airplane – I steer clear.

I guess my ‘thing’ stems from being an obsessive compulsive collector of paper and embellishments. I almost never use up my stash immediately after buying it and I love to be able to use it at any time.

Moreover, I prefer to tell my stories through my journaling and/or my photos and not through the mass manufactured themed design.

But that’s just me…

Lately, I was glad to find out more and more manufacturers who offered “themed” products with design that can work also for layouts outside the theme. For example, I love the kraft papers by My Mind’s Eye and the beautiful French chic papers by Pink Paislee.

Saying that, what I am MOST happy about are entire collections that can work outside the theme. Karla Dudley has released a new kit in a new store – Design House Digital. The kit is a themed kit for Halloween, hence its name: Spook. However, the kit can totally work for any layout, whatsoever, with the natural color palette and fun embellishments.

Here is a layout I created using Spooked:
