A Big Boy’s Look

A Big Boy's Look

Before heading to the party, celebrating my nephew’s birth, I had the pleasure of spending the morning with my sister and the early afternoon with her boys: Asaf and Ori.

I had fun playing with them while their mother, my sister, was getting ready.

This beautiful photo of Ori was taken by his 7-year-old brother, Asaf, who loves to take pictures too.

I can’t help but admiring the gesture Asaf captured in this photo. Such a big boy’s look!

Technique

Background

  1. For the distressed background I used a good old bubble-wrap. I just squirted some acrylic paint (which is very thick and has good quality) onto a paper plate and flattened it with a scrap paper. Then I dabbed the bubble wrap in it and “stamped” it on my background.
  2. Next I took some white watercolor and flooded it with water, then I dabbed a brush in the diluted watercolor and tapped the edge of my brush, while holding it above my background sheet.
  3. Then I assembled the rest of my layout.

Title

  1. I stamped the title with the letter stamp set and assembled word by word, to make sure the letters are aligned.
  2. Then, to add some texture and volume, I filled in the letters with Stickles. I think that Glossy Accents or a similar product can add even more volume and assimilate epoxy letters. Next time…

Ori, aka Sunshine Boy

Ori, aka Sunshine Boy Layout

Ori had been my youngest nephew for 5 years, until Shachar was born earlier this year (this april…). In this photo he’s at the party celebrating his cousin’s birth.

Ori has the most vibrant and glowing red hair in our close family. Well, my father had a pretty vibrant hair color too, but he’s getting blond again.

Anyhow, with Shachar’s birth, Ori has not only lost his role as the youngest but rumor has it that he will not be the only red-haired anymore.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

At the moment it seems that Shachar is getting as blond as his big brother, Shoham, and is not that red-haired anymore.

He’s still very beautiful, of course.

The Samets

The Samets Layout

My husband, his cat, his sister and two of his cousins.

Products Used

  • The flowers and frilly border die cuts were cut off of an old Basic Grey collection. (I’m talking about a 5-6 years old one).
  • Studio Calico Tan Chipboard Alpha Stickers. I must say, this one sheet goes a long way…
  • Tim Holtz Distressed Stickles in Antique Linen – I used that because I ran out of capital ‘S’s. I just used the sticker sheet as a stencil, to get the shape right, and filled the outline with the Stickles.
  • K & Company Smash Date Stamp.

Unleashing The Creative Child Within You
Back when we were kids creativity came naturally to us. Everything was possible and our prolific imagination was the only limit we knew.
Through the years we have grown apart from our inner creative child and along with that – have lost our pristine and utter joy of creation.

In this e-book I will pave your way back to your inner creative child, brick by brick.

“Unleashing The Creative Child Within You” will explain why you became distant from your core creativity and will reveal the secret to getting it back.

With exercises designed specifically to help you find the inner child within you, regain its confidence and unleash it – you are bound to get your mojo back faster than you think.

Your inner creative child wants to come out and play, so don’t disappoint it and get “Unleashing The Creative Child Within You“.

This Is A Cat’s World

Monday, June 20th, 2011

this is a cat's world layout

this is a cat's world layout

As I’ve mentioned numerous times, Nadav LOVES his cat, Uzi (the fat one). He is less fond of its sister, Shachar (the black one). She is less friendly, even hostile. Especially towards her brother who’s scared of her.

One day Nadav insisted that I feed Uzi (I’m a bit scared of doing that because he gets VERY excited when he’s being fed). So I put some cat food in his bowl and he started eating joyously until Shachar came in and he immediately stopped and let her eat up. He did not move a muscle until she was finished and walked away from the room altogether. Only then (even a few seconds later, to be sure) he moved slowly towards the bowl and resumed eating.

So. Adorable.

All the products I used are way old, from companies not existing anymore… So there is no use in naming the products. Let’s just say: “Raid your stash”.

By the way, the letters are fun foam die cuts that I cut with the Cuttlebug, using a Sizzix 4″ by 8″ die.

Sweet Like Chocolate… Spread

Sweet Like Chocolate Spread Layout

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words and a title is more than enough.

Somehow, my mischievous niece, Tsuf, keeps getting into situations wherein a picture will suffice…

I love her!

[And too many people say she reminds them of me at her age. I was pretty opinionated, what can I say...]

Father Son Conversation

Father Son Conversation Layout

Nadav’s mom was the one who asked me to take these pictures, and I’m so glad she did.

This is such a good memory to have and such a great way to showcase my husband’s special connection with his dad.

All the pictures were printed at 4″ by 6″ but trimmed to 2½” by 6″ to emphasize the conversation between the two, rather than the busy background of the event we were in.

This is a very minimalistic layout, where the photos take the center stage.

It Is Hailing Man – Hallelujah

It Is Hailing Man Layout

Granted, April is very unstable, weather-wise.

But we did not expect it to HAIL.

Especially not that strong, with such big blobs.

Especially not in Israel… In April. Now way.

Way…

In this layout I recorded a funny memory of how Nadav’s cat, Uzi, was caught outside and didn’t have good cover.

Soon after the hail stopped we heard him meowing behind the door and he came in, completely soaked and miserable.

Then, like any cat would do when it reaches a safe and dry spot, Uzi shook his fur and hail-balls started falling out.

We couldn’t stop laughing.

Poor Uzi.

[Interesting fact: Uzi is a common name for red-haired kids in Israel. Or cats...]

Family Trip

Family Trip Layout

This layout is photo heavy, as I wanted to include all the photos we took at a day trip with Nadav’s parents, while we were visiting home in April.

All the photos were printed at 4″ by 6″, but one was trimmed to fit in…

You And I Share A Passion

You and I Share a Passion

In my last visit to Israel I found out that my 7-years-old nephew loves to take pictures.

I always knew he is a talented little guy. He’s drawing and painting whenever he has the chance to do so.

He’s also gifted, but that’s just me bragging. So unrelated… Moving on.

I never knew that he also likes to take pictures.

He is so talented. He has a great eye for composition and he did a very good job with my DSLR.

Better job than mine…

In this layout you can see a photo of me taken by him with my camera and a photo of the little guy with his camera, taken by me.

[Bragging again - he's also very cute. Handsome little guy].

Creativity Prompt – Write Your Journaling With Letter Stickers

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Hoover Dam Layout

I am now working on my Las Vegas trip album. We went there last year and travelled around a little bit.

We were truly inspired by the story behind the Hoover Dam and I wanted to highlight the story in my album.

That’s why I decided to write down the story using letter stickers. It really emphasizes the story portion of the layout.

The micro mono stickers by Basic Grey are PERFECT for the job. They are small enough to stay in proportion and there are multiple stickers of each letter – both lowercase and capital letters. You really get a ton of stickers per sheet – and in the rare case you run out of a letter (like I ran out of ‘d’s) it is really simple to cut around the letter and use its outline instead, which also add a nice graphic element to the journaling.

Give it a try!

Side Note

Check out how I tucked in the ticket to the power plant tour underneath the picture on the left side of the layout. I do that a lot to keep souvenirs from my trip. All I do is apply the adhesive just to 3 edges of the photo, so it creates a pocket. If the ticket is on the smaller side, I add a strip of adhesive in the middle, to keep the ephemera from getting buried inside the photo pocket.
