Mirror, Mirror On The Wall…

Mirror Mirro On The Wall Layout

Everyone knows the original text from the Grimm’s fairytale:

“Mirror, mirror upon the wall, Who is the fairest of all?”

I guess self image was a big issue back then as well… Only the proportions have changed through time.

I couldn’t help but write my own version of this famous line to depict my young niece, who thanks god, has a healthy self image at 8.

I only hope she’ll keep up with her good spirit and won’t develop distorted self consciousness once she becomes a teenager.

So far, so good.

It also doesn’t hurt to be so photogenic…

Small Wonder

Monday, July 4th, 2011

Happy 4th of July to all my American Friends! How are you celebrating today?

Small Wonder Layout

I once heard that babies are born cute as a survival mechanism.

They need to get fed, cleaned and be taken care of in general, but they can’t give anything in return (other than happiness and joy).

Not that I do not appreciate joy and happiness. Everyone need an abundance of those in their lives.

But that’s the point, their cuteness generates the joy and happiness…

Saying that, let me just tell you one thing:

Babies may not be able to speak or communicate in any way, but they have a way of making the world revolve around them.

What a small and magnificent wonder.

Supply Used

This is a very minimalistic layout… I just stitched two corners of the photo and added letter stickers and some handwritten journaling. I gave the photo take the center stage, just like my newborn nephew…

Unleashing The Creative Child Within You
Back when we were kids creativity came naturally to us. Everything was possible and our prolific imagination was the only limit we knew.
Through the years we have grown apart from our inner creative child and along with that – have lost our pristine and utter joy of creation.

In this e-book I will pave your way back to your inner creative child, brick by brick.

“Unleashing The Creative Child Within You” will explain why you became distant from your core creativity and will reveal the secret to getting it back.

With exercises designed specifically to help you find the inner child within you, regain its confidence and unleash it – you are bound to get your mojo back faster than you think.

Your inner creative child wants to come out and play, so click here to get “Unleashing The Creative Child Within You” now.

Totally Absorbed

Totally Absorbed LAyout

Children will be children.

Even when I ask my niece and nephews what they want, just days before I come for a visit, they can still be disappointed when I give it to them.

Fashion changes rapidly. Especially when it comes to toys.

Which is why I was so genuinely happy when Asaf actually LOVED what I brought him.

He played (and is still playing) with his Bay Blades for hours.

I love the concentrated look on his face after he sets them off into the arena and watches them until they stop twirling.

What a whirlwind. Literally.

Products Used

  • My journaling labels (recolored in blue and printed on cream cardstock)
  • Background cardstock by Bazzil
  • Bling – generic.
  • Letter stickers by Making Memories (both black and blue ones)
  • Busy Bee die-cut by Doodlebug Designs.
  • Pinking Circle punch by Martha stewart.

Sister Times Four

Sister Times Four Layout

Again, very simple notion – the four of us.

We are four sisters. We love each other. We were finally together.

That. Is. All.

The layout is as minimalistic as the idea behind it – a photo, a title and a couple trims, sewn together.

Products Used

  • Background cardstock is by American Crafts from the Neutrals collection.
  • Letter stickers by American Crafts.
  • Red flowers and letter stickers are by Anna Griffin.
  • Lace trims are from a store in Haifa Israel, called: “Everything For The Seamstress” (For the Israeli readers, it’s on 2 Menachem street).

I mention her store because for every piece of trim I had paid for, the sales lady generously gave me at least 3 others from her “scraps” which were as large/ long as the ones I had bought. Such a big-hearted woman. [By the way, that was 2 years ago, when I visited Israel and she did not know I have a blog, so she obviously didn’t do that for the mention]

I Heart You

I Heart You Layout

There is not much I can add about this layout.

Although the journaling is far from being verbose, it tells the whole story.

I simply love this little guy. Currently 7-year-old.

I just love him!

The Grid

Before saying anything, please note that the instructions are more of a “do as I say” than “do as I did”…

I use the scoring board for anything that involves aligment, e.g. grids, journaling lines, placement, ets…

  1. First insert the piece you are going to build the grid on and find its center. LIGHTLY score that line.
  2. Then decide how many objects you want placed and score in even increments from the center (that works for odd numbers).
  3. Flip the piece, 90° and repeat.
  4. Position each punch out at the intersection of 2 score lines.

My mistake was that I didn’t start from the middle and ended up with redundant score lines. Not only that, but I had to score deeper on my actual score lines, so I can tell which ones are the actual guides… Which is why I forewarned you guys “do as I say not as I did”.

You’ve Buried Your Soul Deeper Than Our Reach

You Buried Your Soul Deeper Than Our Reach Layout

If there is one thing I want more than anything in the world is to be able to see into this little guy’s soul.

His soul is so pure and pristine that I’m sure that a mere glimpse will make me a better person.

Sadly, my nephew has buried his soul so deep than no one can reach it anymore.

If he’s happy, then we are all happy. Affected by his broad and bright smile.

But if he’s sad – there is no way we can make him feel better, until he finds the way himself.

I apologize that most of the products are unavailable [I’m trying to dig deep into my stash], but any mix of letter stickers would work, as well as using different fonts if you are recreating this layout digitally.

A Big Boy’s Look

A Big Boy's Look

Before heading to the party, celebrating my nephew’s birth, I had the pleasure of spending the morning with my sister and the early afternoon with her boys: Asaf and Ori.

I had fun playing with them while their mother, my sister, was getting ready.

This beautiful photo of Ori was taken by his 7-year-old brother, Asaf, who loves to take pictures too.

I can’t help but admiring the gesture Asaf captured in this photo. Such a big boy’s look!

Background

  1. For the distressed background I used a good old bubble-wrap. I just squirted some acrylic paint (which is very thick and has good quality) onto a paper plate and flattened it with a scrap paper. Then I dabbed the bubble wrap in it and “stamped” it on my background.
  2. Next I took some white watercolor and flooded it with water, then I dabbed a brush in the diluted watercolor and tapped the edge of my brush, while holding it above my background sheet.
  3. Then I assembled the rest of my layout.

Title

  1. I stamped the title with the letter stamp set and assembled word by word, to make sure the letters are aligned.
  2. Then, to add some texture and volume, I filled in the letters with Stickles. I think that Glossy Accents or a similar product can add even more volume and assimilate epoxy letters. Next time…

Ori, aka Sunshine Boy

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Ori, aka Sunshine Boy Layout

Ori had been my youngest nephew for 5 years, until Shachar was born earlier this year (this april…). In this photo he’s at the party celebrating his cousin’s birth.

Ori has the most vibrant and glowing red hair in our close family. Well, my father had a pretty vibrant hair color too, but he’s getting blond again.

Anyhow, with Shachar’s birth, Ori has not only lost his role as the youngest but rumor has it that he will not be the only red-haired anymore.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

At the moment it seems that Shachar is getting as blond as his big brother, Shoham, and is not that red-haired anymore.

He’s still very beautiful, of course.

The Samets

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

The Samets Layout

My husband, his cat, his sister and two of his cousins.

Products Used

  • The flowers and frilly border die cuts were cut off of an old Basic Grey collection. (I’m talking about a 5-6 years old one).
  • Studio Calico Tan Chipboard Alpha Stickers. I must say, this one sheet goes a long way…
  • Tim Holtz Distressed Stickles in Antique Linen – I used that because I ran out of capital ‘S’s. I just used the sticker sheet as a stencil, to get the shape right, and filled the outline with the Stickles.
  • K & Company Smash Date Stamp.

This Is A Cat’s World

Monday, June 20th, 2011

this is a cat's world layout

this is a cat's world layout

As I’ve mentioned numerous times, Nadav LOVES his cat, Uzi (the fat one). He is less fond of its sister, Shachar (the black one). She is less friendly, even hostile. Especially towards her brother who’s scared of her.

One day Nadav insisted that I feed Uzi (I’m a bit scared of doing that because he gets VERY excited when he’s being fed). So I put some cat food in his bowl and he started eating joyously until Shachar came in and he immediately stopped and let her eat up. He did not move a muscle until she was finished and walked away from the room altogether. Only then (even a few seconds later, to be sure) he moved slowly towards the bowl and resumed eating.

So. Adorable.

All the products I used are way old, from companies not existing anymore… So there is no use in naming the products. Let’s just say: “Raid your stash”.

By the way, the letters are fun foam die cuts that I cut with the Cuttlebug, using a Sizzix 4″ by 8″ die.
