This Is A Cat’s World

this is a cat's world layout

this is a cat's world layout

As I’ve mentioned numerous times, Nadav LOVES his cat, Uzi (the fat one). He is less fond of its sister, Shachar (the black one). She is less friendly, even hostile. Especially towards her brother who’s scared of her.

One day Nadav insisted that I feed Uzi (I’m a bit scared of doing that because he gets VERY excited when he’s being fed). So I put some cat food in his bowl and he started eating joyously until Shachar came in and he immediately stopped and let her eat up. He did not move a muscle until she was finished and walked away from the room altogether. Only then (even a few seconds later, to be sure) he moved slowly towards the bowl and resumed eating.

So. Adorable.

All the products I used are way old, from companies not existing anymore… So there is no use in naming the products. Let’s just say: “Raid your stash”.

By the way, the letters are fun foam die cuts that I cut with the Cuttlebug, using a Sizzix 4″ by 8″ die.

Sweet Like Chocolate… Spread

Sweet Like Chocolate Spread Layout

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words and a title is more than enough.

Somehow, my mischievous niece, Tsuf, keeps getting into situations wherein a picture will suffice…

I love her!

[And too many people say she reminds them of me at her age. I was pretty opinionated, what can I say…]

Father Son Conversation

Father Son Conversation Layout

Nadav’s mom was the one who asked me to take these pictures, and I’m so glad she did.

This is such a good memory to have and such a great way to showcase my husband’s special connection with his dad.

All the pictures were printed at 4″ by 6″ but trimmed to 2½” by 6″ to emphasize the conversation between the two, rather than the busy background of the event we were in.

This is a very minimalistic layout, where the photos take the center stage.

It Is Hailing Man – Hallelujah

It Is Hailing Man Layout

Granted, April is very unstable, weather-wise.

But we did not expect it to HAIL.

Especially not that strong, with such big blobs.

Especially not in Israel… In April. Now way.

Way…

In this layout I recorded a funny memory of how Nadav’s cat, Uzi, was caught outside and didn’t have good cover.

Soon after the hail stopped we heard him meowing behind the door and he came in, completely soaked and miserable.

Then, like any cat would do when it reaches a safe and dry spot, Uzi shook his fur and hail-balls started falling out.

We couldn’t stop laughing.

Poor Uzi.

[Interesting fact: Uzi is a common name for red-haired kids in Israel. Or cats…]

Family Trip

Family Trip Layout

This layout is photo heavy, as I wanted to include all the photos we took at a day trip with Nadav’s parents, while we were visiting home in April.

All the photos were printed at 4″ by 6″, but one was trimmed to fit in…

You And I Share A Passion

You and I Share a Passion

In my last visit to Israel I found out that my 7-years-old nephew loves to take pictures.

I always knew he is a talented little guy. He’s drawing and painting whenever he has the chance to do so.

He’s also gifted, but that’s just me bragging. So unrelated… Moving on.

I never knew that he also likes to take pictures.

He is so talented. He has a great eye for composition and he did a very good job with my DSLR.

Better job than mine…

In this layout you can see a photo of me taken by him with my camera and a photo of the little guy with his camera, taken by me.

[Bragging again – he’s also very cute. Handsome little guy].

Smash Books – You Have Got To Love This Idea. I do.

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

They are available at the Two Peas Store.

I snapped one, ASAP, before everything got out of stock.

These are the items I got:

I will share, as soon as I get my things [for which I paid with my own money – my husband may beg to differ… hmm].

While at it, I also got these stamp sets, because they were so inexpensive and the fonts are so cute:

SO? What do YOU think about these?

How To Make A Hardcover Mini Album With Plain Envelopes

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Hardcover Envelope Book

My husband thinks it’s silly but I think it’s super-duper cute, you’ll be the final judges…

Supply

Step by Step Instructions

Steps

Start by folding each envelope in half and then cutting the edge of the envelope’s flap, in an angle, at the half point.
Steps

This is how your envelope will look like after its flap was cut.
Steps

Next, channel your inner seamstress, stack all the envelopes together and sew the spine at the crease line. You can also pierce 2 holes in the spine and tie it by hand with an embroidery floss, or fasten it with a staple. Sewing is the fastest way to assemble the signature, even for me (you will understand that remark shortly).
Steps

This is how your envelope stack will look like, if you are a terrible seamstress. Just like me. Who had to put it through the machine several times… I assume you may only be better than I am at that, because I am the worst, ever.
Steps

If you have sewing accidents… fix the spine with a layer of strong liquid glue.
Steps

Or just secure the pages with a folded piece of patterned paper that you adhere to both pages’ edges.
Steps

Now let’s move on to the cover, shall we? Given that you use business envelopes, cut 2 pieces of chipboard at 4½” by 5″ each. If you use any other envelope, just cut the cover a bit larger than the size of half an envelope (because they will be folded in half).
Steps

Then Choose your cover fabric. I had this fat quarter collecting dust and just waiting for this project. So I used it. Use any scrap that covers both pieces of chipboard, a spine and then some.
Steps

This is the ratio of fabric/ cover. Just so you will get the hang of it. Cut each edge at a triangle and adhere the flaps to the inner part of the cover with strong liquid glue. You can be messy, it will all be concealed momentarily.
Steps

Now, attach your sewed signature by applying a generous amount of liquid glue and adhering to the inner part of the cover. Do it one side at a time and be careful of unwanted spills that may ruin your envelope pockets. Because we use envelopes to embrace and utilize their pockets, right? right.

Embellish and place top secrets and cherished memories in the pockets.

Done.

[Are you still with me or were you lost due to the length of this unearthly post? Please comment and tell.]

Grandma, This Is How I Remember You

Grandma, This Is How I Remember You

[Fonts: Little Days, Hobo and Adler.]

In the left photo you can see my grandma holding her first born, my mother (circa 1948) and on the right you can see me and grandma at the park near her home (circa 1988). 40 years apart – still beautiful.

Let me tell you some more about my grandmother.

She was born in Poland to an affluent family of merchants and Jewish scholars.

Her family was ultra-orthodox, Chassidic. Her parents had 10 children in total.

When she was a young adult she started questioning her parents’ Chassidic ways and had secretly joined a more secular Zionist group.

She was very careful not to hurt her father’s feelings and would leave home wearing long sleeved shirts and long skirts and then change into more modern apparel and meet with her Zionist friends.

Not long afterward she fell in love with a beautiful young student who shared her modern viewpoint and after awhile they got engaged.

Sadly, her beloved fiance was caught “in the line of fire” in an outburst against the Jews in the community and was hanged then and there in the center of the neighborhood.

She was heartbroken but determined to keep on living.

Just a couple years later, WW2 started and Hitler occupied Poland.

My grandma remembered the day the Nazis came to her neighborhood and started lining up all the jews. She and her family members ran out into the chilling evening and into the woods.

My grandma had blond hair and blue eyes and was well educated [thus fluent in Polish and Russian] so she could pass for a non-jew, which was what had saved her life and prevented her from the destiny of most of her other family members [very unsettling but true].

She was hidden for about a year, working as a potato peeler in a remote peasants’ inn until someone found out she is Jewish and asked for things she refused to give in return for his silence…

She took off immediately and ran towards the Russian border, where she was caught as an enemy of the country [being Polish…] and sent to a hard labor camp in Siberia.

In Siberia she had to stand all day with light clothes and thin soled shoes and cut trees, in the burning cold (up to minus 40 degrees in the wintertime). She received a portion of 1 coarse loaf of stale bread and 1 cup of water a day and watched hundreds of people give up and die – every single day. But my grandmother endured until the war was over.

Then she came back to Germany and got reunited with her brother. Only 2 brothers had survived the Holocaust (and 1 sister who had left for Israel before the war started and survived as well).

In Germany she met my grandfather who had lost his family as well. They fell in love and got married and had my mother while they were still living in Berlin.

Thereafter my grandparents left Berlin and came to Israel where they started their own restaurant in downtown Haifa and they had both lived in Haifa until their last day.

My grandma was a hard working woman and a survivor. She had strong determination to work as long as she could.

My grandma also had the type of charisma that drew people towards her wherever she went and whatever she did.

She was a generous person who always loved to host as many guests as possible and prepare noteworthy dinners for everyone.

She had led a long, laborious but fulfilling life – a real inspiration to everyone.

And Yet Another Card Set – I have Many People To Gift…

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

card set

This set is without a greeting because I actually use these cards for the gifts I am giving everyone, so a generic greeting won’t do. I want to write a personal greeting for each person. This is how I roll…
card set

This card set is probably the simplest of them all.

All I did was to cut a piece of cardstock (3½” by 1½”), then punch out 3 pinking circles from the Emma’s Shoppe’s collection by Crate Paper (it’s such a cute collection).

I adhered the three punched pieces to the cardstock using 2-way glue and sew over it [I used the 2-way glue to make sure the adhesive won’t clump the sewing machine].

I secured the ends of the threads with regular tape and rounded the corners, then adhered to the cardstock base.

That is all.

Isn’t it simple?
